What to Watch on Crunchyroll Right now! – Part 2

Continuing on from my previous post here are some more anime shows that can be streamed on Crunchyroll!

Sailor Moon Crystal (美少女戦士セーラームーンCrystalクリスタル Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn Kurisutaru) Yes, the beloved 90s anime has been rebooted for its 20th anniversary. The story this time closely follows the manga, unlike the original anime, and includes some things the creator, Naoko Takeuchi, wanted to put into the manga and anime but never found time to. The animation is more like the manga and I think over all, the series so far is gorgeous! I love the new theme songs and OST as well as the new interpretation of the characters. If you loved the original, I say give it a go, especially now that you can marathon a whole arc which I think makes the episodes better. If you’re new, just do it! It’s less cheesy 90s and more romantic and magical girl. The only problem is once you are caught up you’ll have to wait 2 weeks between episodes like the rest of us!

Shirobako (meaning White Box) is certainly a different kind of anime. It’s all about the creating of an anime series. The lead is Miyamori Aoi and we watch her hard, hard HARD, work as a production assistant on an anime. I feel like once you start watching this you’ll never bitch about the quality of animation or direction ever again lol. It’s a really funny, interesting story that is female driven. Definitely an exciting and original anime that everyone HAS to try!

Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso) Beautifully animated, wonderful soundtrack, interesting characters and ultimately heartbreaking! It’s an anime about two musicians and two jocks. Kousei Arima was a child prodigy of piano until his mother fell ill and subsequently abusive, during a performance he could no longer hear the notes. Later his mother passes away. A couple of years later Kousei meets Kaori Miyazono, a free-spirited and passionate violinist who demands he becomes her accompanist for performances. The story is long and very slow moving but once you get to the second act things start to reveal themselves and you’ll freaking bawl your eyes out! A moving and special anime that any music lover should check out.

Yuki Yuna is a Hero (結城友奈は勇者である Yūki Yūna wa Yūsha de Aru) If you’re a fan of magical girls you have to get on it! I suppose there isn’t much to say about this piece. It’s a lovely addition to the magical girl genre with its flower themes and female friendship. I suppose a highlight of this series is the character Togo Mimori. It is rare to see a disabled character in one of the lead spots or in anime at all and even when she transforms into a magical girl she isn’t magically “fixed”. She wears petal-like supports so that she can stand and jump, although her main weapon is a huge sniper gun which she shoots while lying down. She’s just kick ass okay! There’s very cute humour here and you really just enjoy the characters for what they are.

Well, that’s another anime post done! Hope you enjoyed it and may check out CR and the shows that they air!
