Review: Mecca

Today’s beauty website review is Mecca. They are an Australian company with an online store as well as three different brick-and-mortar stores named Mecca Cosmetica, Mecca Maxima and Kit Cosmetics. Each store is aimed at a different demographic and carry all different brands. Where I live, Adelaide, we only have three Cosmeticas which is kind of annoying since all the brands I like are carried by Maxima! Luckily, you can buy from all three on the store so it’s not too bad, I just can’t look at things in person. Most of the brands at Mecca are considered mid-range in the USA such as NARS, Hourglass, Bobbi Brown, Too Faced and, the recently added, Urban Decay! In Australia, though, I would consider the prices for these brands pretty high-end, but maybe that’s just me! Anywho, I did my first online order with them for some splurge presents! I couldn’t have my pretty new items until I finished my current essays and it was certainly good incentive! A day before the due-date I got them done and handed in, so it was make up party time!!

They confirmed my order on Friday April 17th, shipped it on Monday and it was at my door on Tuesday morning! I got shipping since I spent over $75, usually it is $10. The service they use is Startrack which you have to sign for. Since most of the products you’re going to buy from Mecca are pretty expensive it is good they give you this security during shipping!

The Mecca box came in a sturdy little shipping box. I thought the personalised box was super cute!

Opening the lid, I got a newsletter/catalogue and my receipt was in a cute little envelope, both sitting on top of neatly folded tissue paper. Spending so much, I was hoping for a little care and thought in the packaging and they certainly delivered on that! I was pretty blown away compared to some other places I have bought from. The level of detail that went into this definitely added to the high-end buying experience.

Unfolded the tissue paper and took out some extra crumpled stuff to find all my items tucked in with samples! They were all facing the same way, too.

There was more crumpled tissue paper underneath and the package as a whole was really sturdy and firmly packed. The box never sounded shakey inside and all of my items were in perfect condition.

At checkout you could pick three samples to go with your order. Two of the ones I picked out were included, the Kate Somerville ones, but not the third one since I picked a NARS primer from memory. I understand though, it was going to be a popular choice and it’s nice I still got a NARS sample!

I bought three items: Urban Decay Naked 3 palette, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Wardrobe and NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer! I can’t wait to try them all out and when I’ve had a good play around with these I will put up individual reviews!

Overall, I would highly recommend shopping with Mecca. Despite not having access to all their brands in person, the online shopping experience made up for that 10-fold. They have a wonderful selection and my wishlist on the site grew to a bazillion after this order!
